Three Looks That Dazzle
If ever theres a day to make a statement, its your wedding day. Youre center stage, so choose a look that expresses your unique character, spirit, and style, while blending with the overall tone of your wedding.
For three different looks, we caught up with makeup artist Meryl Schwartz and stylist Maria Ditta of Ashimoto Essential Beauty. (www.ashimoto.com)
According to Meryl, your "look" begins with your dress. Whether it’s classic and traditional or off-the-wall and edgy, your hair and makeup should complement your gown's basic design and expressive style.

Natural
"If your dress is clean, simple and understated, a ‘natural’ look is usually best," says Meryl. "Stick with earth and flesh tones to create the appearance of a flawless complexion. Your makeup should look transparent, not mask-like." Oil-free foundation is suggested, unless your skin is extremely dry. ?This is great for brides who normally don’t wear a lot of makeup," she continues. "You want to look your best, but not overwhelmingly different than you normally look." Natural makeup is fitting for daytime weddings and works well for outdoor photography with natural lighting.
To achieve this look rice-powder is a "must-have." Apply it to the T-zone to avoid oil build-up and shine. On the cheeks, use sand pink blush for a fresh glow. On the eyes, start with white, peach or shell tone shadow along with taupe in the crease of the eyelid. Apply brown liner and dark brown mascara. Use a pencil that matches your natural color to create a soft, round arch.
Meryl suggests applying lipstick before liner for a soft look. "Make sure your lip liner is well-blended. You don’t want peaks like Marlene Dietrich." On Michelle, she uses a cappuccino lip pencil. For a pouty, dewey lip that’s fresh and clean, use copper topper gloss by Ashimoto Essential Beauty. Finally, apply a dab of shimmer to the eyes, cheekbone and lips, carefully avoiding the T-zone.
"You want your face, neck and body color to blend," says Meryl. "Some brides make the mistake of having a light face and a tan body." For an overall even tone, use bronzer to enhance the glow on your face to match the rest of your body.
For natural looking hair, Maria suggests a good cut in your usual style. "Work with your hair’s natural texture and use light products to enhance a healthy shine. With a traditional or classic dress, you’re not going to want a hair-do that is drastically different from your normal look," says Maria. "You don’t want to look at your photos 20 years from now and think, ‘Oh my God, what fad was I in?’ "
To achieve this look, use styling lotion, a light aerosol spray and a shine spray for finishing touches.

Modern
"If you’re a fashion-forward, progressive bride who keeps up with the latest styles and trends," says Meryl, "a ‘modern’ look may work for you. It’s likely your gown is contemporary and stylish, with workmanship or beading.
"For your makeup, the aim is to bring attention to your eyes and mouth. This is most appropriate for an evening wedding."
To achieve this look, use eyeshadows in sultry plums and coppers. Add depth to the eye with charcoal eyeliner and black mascara.
"For a stronger brow line, brush over brows while wet with a clear gel and apply brown powder that matches the brow color. Add shimmer under the brow bone for added luminosity.
To emphasize the lips, line them heavily with pinks and berries. For a pouty effect, Meryl suggests a touch of gloss in the lower center of the mouth. On Michelle, she uses Celestial gloss by Ashimoto Essential Beauty.
Over even-toned foundation, apply a pop of color on the cheeks in apricot and coral for a warm glow. "Don’t be afraid of blush," says Meryl. "On this day, you tend to need a little more than usual." Use rice powder to control shine and minimal bronzer to keep the focal point on the eyes and lips.
Carrying the modern look to the hair, Maria styles it sleek and smooth. "This works well with a chic, trim cut," she says. "If you’re dress is original and different, you don’t want your hair style to compete with its aesthetic details. Keep it neat, straight, simple and shiny. If you want more intensity, try a non-traditional part."
For a fresh, modern effect, Maria places a diagonal, zig-zag part in Michelles hair. To achieve this look, straighten your hair with a hot iron and finish it with smoothing pomade to ensure continuous shine and luster.

Glamorous
"If your dress is avant-garde or couture and you’re having an evening wedding, your hair and makeup should be absolutely glamorous," says Meryl. "You’re a fashion-forward, runway-savvy bride, who’s adventurous, sexy, and not afraid to let your individuality shine."
To complement Michelle’s unconventional light gray gown, Meryl keeps her palette neutral "to keep the excitement focused on the eye. Layer a lot of loose powder under the eye region, so if any shadow falls, you can easily wipe it away."
To achieve this look, use black eyeshadow, liner and several coats of black mascara for a smoky, sexy effect. Apply white and taupe shadow across the lid, while also highlighting beneath the brow bone in white. Keep the cheeks and lips neutral and beige. On Michelle, Meryl uses lipstick in ambrosia with deep natural liner. "Steer clear of lip gloss, it will detract from the powerful emphasis on the eyes.? Apply light to medium flesh-tone powder over the entire face.
For glamorous hair, Maria suggests a sophisticated upswept do with intricate design. "Be sure to experiment with up-do’s ahead of time," she says. "This look can be done with hair that’s as short as five inches. Use an off-set or center part, depending upon which is most flattering to the shape of your face."
To achieve this look, ask your stylist for an up-do with a series of intricate knots. For hold and durability, remember its best to refrain from washing your hair immediately before the styling.
