A Rustic Fall Wedding
Andrew and I went to high school together and began dating at the end of our senior year. We went to different colleges, his in upstate New York and mine in Michigan, and dated long distance for the next four years. I am now a lawyer and Andrew works in finance. Years later, Andrew convinced me we were going to his boss’ beach house for a work event. On the way there, Andrew stopped by a beautiful spot overlooking the water and proposed! Following the surprise proposal, Andrew planned a romantic boat ride, complete with champagne. Then he took us to my parents’ beach house, the real plan all along, where everyone was waiting to celebrate! Later that night, we took a ferry back to NYC to a party with our friends, which Andrew had also organized.
We wanted an autumn wedding with views of the Hudson Valley’s beautiful fall foliage. The second we walked into The Garrison, we could not imagine getting married anywhere else. The ceremony and reception areas are incredibly picturesque. We also loved how the reception area gives you an outdoor feeling, without running the risk of unfavorable weather. It was the perfect location because it is convenient for our NYC-area guests to get to, but sufficiently far away so that it still feels like a getaway wedding weekend.
With the amazing staff at The Garrison, we felt like every detail was already thought of and handled, so we did not have to worry about a thing. Annie Rozycki, the special events manager, helped us flawlessly plan every aspect of our wedding. The Garrison, from the stunning venue itself to the attentive staff and delicious food, is really the whole package.
Pashminas and hot apple cider were available for our guests as they entered the ceremony. A solo guitarist played a Beatles medley as we walked down the aisle. Perhaps the most special element for us though, was having Andrew’s dad officiate.
Our guests raved about both the jazz trio that played throughout the cocktail hour and the delicious selection of food. We had several passed hors d’oeuvres including tuna flatbread with wasabi, shrimp cocktail, and the fan favorite, wild mushroom beggars purses. We had two food stations: an Italian station with herb and garlic meatballs, baked rigatoni, and tomato and parmesan focaccia and a BBQ station with classics like pulled pork, smoked brisket, and mac and cheese.
Our ballroom had a rustic chic fall theme. The Garrison recommended our amazing florist. We did not know what flowers we wanted at first, but they understood our tastes and created an autumn-colored décor more beautiful than we could have imagined.
The dinner appetizer was a frisée salad with goat cheese, beets, and red wine vinaigrette. For entrées, we offered seared striped bass with sesame soy glaze or grilled filet mignon with red wine veal jus. For dessert, we had our delicious wedding cake, served with coffee and tea. Our band made the reception so much fun! They played a perfect mix of old and new music and the dance floor was crowded all night.
We are so lucky to have such an amazing venue and vendors, who worked tirelessly to help us have the perfect wedding. Thank you Annie, our florist Judy, and all our vendors. And thank you to our families, who were so amazing throughout the whole planning process. We could not have done it without you.
