Chris and I met on match.com, right after I accepted a job in Connecticut. I am a school social worker and Chris is a Connecticut state trooper. For our first date, we got drinks in the area at a restaurant called Maggie McFly’s. I went on the date with an escape plan in the event that Chris was a creep, but we hit it off immediately!
After a year of dating, Chris took me to a “Good Morning America” concert featuring country singer Brad Paisley. We had an early dinner at the Boathouse in Central Park. Afterwards, we walked to the romantic Bow Bridge and Chris proposed!
We did a tremendous amount of research online looking for a reception venue. It was an easy decision to make after visiting Hollow Brook Golf Club and meeting Robbyn Sciullo, sales director. We felt at home at Hollow Brook. The beautiful grounds and rustic, yet elegant cocktail room and ballroom have such a warm and intimate feeling. We also heard great things about Hollow Brook’s food. Robbyn was easy to talk to and work with and was genuinely considerate of our budgetary limits.
Our pastor shared an extremely thoughtful sermon at our ceremony, held at my life-long church. Also, one of the performers from when I produced and directed the talent show at Fox Lane High School sang “How Great Thou Art” with one of her college classmates. The song was a tribute to both of our mothers, who passed away when each of us were in our early 20’s.
Pictures of our guests hung on twine rope around our cocktail hour room. Our signature drinks were white and red sangria, served in mason jars. Our favorite hors d’oeuvres were the raspberry and brie in phyllo and the poached asparagus wrapped in fresh mozzarella and prosciutto.
For dinner, our guests had a choice of grilled New York strip steak with merlot sauce, roasted free range chicken breast with brandy green peppercorn sauce, or Atlantic salmon fillet in a lemon caper buerre blanc. Each entrée was accompanied with baby string beans, baby carrots, and garlic smashed potatoes. Our guests could not stop talking about how delicious the food was and how professional and accommodating the servers were!
To add a soft glow of candelight in our ballroom, we had seven votive candles on each table, three of which were placed in candle holders of varying heights. Our centerpieces were tall pear branches and white dendrobium orchids. For our last song, our DJ played “New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra and all our guests came together on the dance floor to dance around us in a circle.
Chris and I are truly grateful to everyone who helped make our wedding day so memorable. We would like to thank our fathers for all their love and support, Pastor Hinnen, Robbyn and the Hollow Brook staff, and all our amazing vendors. We had the most wonderful day!
