An Elegant Winter Wedding at Hotel Plaza Athénée
Steven and I met at Protravel International at their main headquarters on Madison Avenue. Steven arrived to Protravel several years after I had been there and worked at their smaller office across the street. In a short period of time, Steven was relocated to their main headquarters, which was where I was located.
His first meeting was with our vice-president of administrative services, who happens to be my best friend. During his meeting with her, he spotted a photo of me situated behind her desk from when she and I were on vacation. He said to himself, “I must find that blonde girl and marry her one day.” He was talking about me.
A few weeks went by, and Steven walked past my office. Unbeknownst to him, the girl in the photo worked down the hall. He did a double-take, turned around, and introduced himself to me. When he walked out, my assistant looked at me and said, “well, whomever he is, he is surely smitten with you!”
Our romance began from there. Steven and I became friends, eventually confidants, and after time fell in love. Approximately 10 years later we got engaged. The proposal was so emotional. Steven and I were in my father’s home in Naples, Florida. Steven poured the three of us a glass of wine and placed a photo of my late mother on a settee in front of us, along with a photo of his late mother and father. He got down on his knee and said, “Lisa, in the presence of your father, and in front of your mother and my parents, I would like to ask you to marry me. I wanted them all to be with us at this special time.”
We set a date for March 15th 2014, and decided on the Hotel Plaza Athénée for our wedding. We are lovers of their bar and restaurant, Arabelle, and love the décor and the way that they make us feel so special. We met with the Director of Catering who assisted us with our entire wedding. Her knowledge, expertise, and eventual friendship are priceless to us. She suggested our florist located here in Manhattan. My bridal attendant, suggested we interview our band. Steven and I met with them and decided that they were the winner. She also recommended our photographer who handled our wedding day.
Our actual wedding day was truly amazing. I had hoped for some snow, but the day was brilliant. It was not too hot nor too cool, and the sky was the clearest of blues. Our wedding was on the small side with 50 guests. We were married in a salon at the Hotel Plaza Athénée by a wonderful reverend, also recommended by the director of catering.
We chose a palette of gold, beige, peach, cream, and taupe for our ceremony and reception décor. Our floral arrangements were soft and loosely gathered but very elegant with mainly hydrangea, roses, and hanging flowers to create a very elegant look. In addition we had stone columns with hanging flowers and sheers, along with off white candles throughout.
Our reception was in the restaurant Arabelle, and the same style and colors were used there, along with gold gilded candelabras. It was important to us that our guests felt as though they were at an intimate dinner with friends and family. The food was superb from the cocktail hour to the cheese plates before dessert. We had an eight-course dinner, which included a sorbet to cleanse the palate before our main course. Our wedding cake was several tiers and a creation done in golds and beiges.
Steven and I felt that our wedding was an elegant gala of two hearts becoming one. We thank everyone for making our day come to fruition and for the excellence that they all provided. A special thanks to the entire staff at the Hotel Plaza Athénée. Their knowledge, expertise, and continued patience and guidance made our day the best that it could possibly be.
