Insightful Ceremony & Décor Ideas
My family has owned and operated a flower shop in Huntington, NY for over 30 years. While I was in college, I worked for a flower shop that was in Smithtown, NY, which Jamie’s father owned. On my first day of work there, I noticed Jamie while I was walking up the staircase. We talked and bonded over the many similarities in our lives as we were each growing up in the floral industry. Later, we went on to other careers; I am a freelance makeup artist for Monet Beauty and Jamie works for the Long Island Rail Road. Years later, Jamie planned on proposing at our favorite restaurant in Little Italy. When the restaurant did not receive his secret proposal menu, he quickly moved to plan B. After dinner, he took me to the Robert Indiana LOVE statue, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him!
Both of us working in the event industry, we wanted our wedding to be a one-of-a-kind party atmosphere with excellent food. The Harbor Club at Prime was the first and only place we looked. The modern ambiance and professional service made it immediately feel special to us and we adored the hand-crafted cocktails and delicious food.
Working with RaeMarie Renna, the general manager, was a delight. She was so organized, professional, and well-versed in the special events industry, which made us feel so comfortable. RaeMarie helped us choose the best food options for our guests, gave insightful ceremony and décor ideas, and helped us fulfill our unique wedding vision.
On the morning of our wedding, it started to rain, so RaeMarie set up for an indoor ceremony. The rain cleared about an hour before the wedding and she asked if I wanted to move the ceremony outdoors, which was my dream. RaeMarie and the Harbor Club staff immediately moved everything just in time for our ceremony, complete with a custom chuppah, a waterfront view, and a beautiful sunset!
Our cocktail hour had an endless supply of incredible food. At the action stations, chefs prepared fresh food for our guests, including a mac and cheese bar with all kinds of toppings and a sushi bar with several selections and signature rolls. Our guests raved about the hors d’oeuvres, like the coconut shrimp lollipops and chicken-n-waffles.
We created a modern color scheme in our ballroom with custom black, white, and gray linens and napkins. Our elevated centerpieces consisted of white phalaenopsis and dendrobium orchids, hydrangeas, and garden roses, complemented by petite mercury glass arrangements on the table tops. The gray sequin overlay on the tables tied the centerpieces to the linen décor beautifully. Our DJ fulfilled all our music requests and created the party atmosphere we wanted. He got the crowd moving all night long with contemporary songs and throwbacks that everyone could sing along to.
We offered two duet courses for our dinner reception. The first course was a warm goat cheese salad and gnocchi in parmesan-white truffle sauce. The second course was surf and turf, with butter-poached lobster and filet mignon. We skipped the cake-cutting to allow for more dancing and partying. For dessert, we served our guests a flourless Valrohna chocolate cake and passed desserts including mini cheesecakes, s’mores brownies, munchkin pops, cookies and milk, along with other fun treats.
Thank you to RaeMarie and the Harbor Club for being so accommodating and helping us fulfill our wedding vision. Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate our special day!
