A Romantic Wedding Weekend
Adam and I met at Stony Brook University in 2005 through mutual friends in the athletic program. Adam played lacrosse and I was on the crew team. We dated all through college. When Adam graduated Stony Brook, he went to graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte while coaching lacrosse. I continued on to Pace University in New York City earning a master’s degree as a physician assistant. When Adam returned to New York, we settled into our first apartment together in Long Beach on Long Island.
One day we had plans to meet friends in the city. Though I was rushing to get ready in time to make the train, Adam kept talking about wanting to walk out to the beach… in February! After some serious coaxing he got me out on the sand. While the chilly wind was blowing my hair all over, Adam began talking about our future, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. When we walked back from the beach, there was a car with champagne ready to take us to New York City. We pulled up to a restaurant where our parents and close friends were waiting to surprise me. It was an amazing night.
My mother passed away a year before we got engaged. It is so special to me that she and Adam had such a close relationship, and planning our wedding without her was something I had never imagined, but Adam helped me a lot through the process. We wanted a venue with a romantic, vintage feel that would accommodate our guests. We knew we had found the place when we got to Tarrytown House Estate. The grounds were breathtaking and classic with beautiful stone mansions around the property. One big selling point was that once our guests arrived, aside from the ceremony, all the wedding festivities would take place on site. The hotel was big enough to reserve a block of rooms for all our expected guests. From day one, Donna Gloddy, catering sales manager, was always available to walk us through all the details of planning our wedding.
Our wedding day was unforgettable. Once we returned from the church, our guests were escorted to the Biddle Mansion for the cocktail hour. The weather was beautiful so everyone could enjoy the grand stone veranda for hors d’oeuvres.
The reception in the Mary Duke Ballroom was set so elegantly. Our centerpieces were antique gold birdcages filled with white flowers and candles. The night was magical. For dinner, our guests had their choice of char-grilled strip steak, striped bass with heirloom tomato fondue, or roasted half-chicken with dark chicken jus. Dessert was a chocolate sampler with milk chocolate mousse, white chocolate macadamia nut biscotti, and raspberry sorbet in a dark chocolate shell. Our band enticed our guests with their musical talents from the moment they stepped into the ballroom. After the reception, the guests who were spending the night were able to continue our celebration in the King House, a large house with an open first floor and bed and breakfast-style rooms where most of the bridal party stayed.
The exceptional memories of our wedding and all those involved will be everlasting! Our parents, amazing family, wonderful bridal party, and friends made the experience incredible for us. We are so fortunate to always be surrounded by so much love and encouragement. Donna and the team at Tarrytown House Estate pulled together our spectacular wedding, and for that we are so very thankful. A special thank you all our vendors, who went above and beyond throughout all the planning and on our big day. Every detail was tended to and we are eternally grateful to everyone who made sure all elements were magnificent.
