"It was the NCAA Final in April 1997. My company hosted a private party at Mickey Mantle's Restaurant on Central Park South.

"We had used Dan’s company to arrange for athletes to be at the party. I was getting dessert and Dan came up to me and started a conversation.

"We talked through the rest of the game. To this day he still says he missed one of the best finals of the NCAA!

"In December 1999 Dan told me he had to go to Paradise Island, Bahamas for a business trip. His client was opening a store in the Bahamas and he was arranging for an athlete to be there. He asked me to come along.

"The evening we arrived we went for a walk and he confessed that there was no business. He had brought me there to propose."
