“We can do anything,” says Andrew Zecher, creative director of the Woodbury Country Club, “even a destination wedding with a Caribbean theme, but right here on Long Island!”
Go Caribbean ... Do you picture yourself getting married on a white sandy beach with all your family and friends, palm trees swaying in the breeze, toasting with piña coladas and strawberry daiquiris, while enjoying Caribbean dishes coming off the grill?
Of course, it’s a dream. You can’t expect your 180 or so guests to attend a wedding 1200 miles away. But now you can have the best of both worlds. Andrew and his team have brought the islands to the Woodbury Country Club.
A Caribbean wedding in New York?
“Yes. We can provide an exciting tropical setting on our 18-acre property,” says Andrew. “We bring in palm trees and white sand. Then we set up beach beds and bring in a steel drum band. We serve tropical drinks and Caribbean food, and all of it takes place around our illuminated fountains and reflecting pools!”
Among the special Caribbean dishes that can be served are tropical salads, mahi mahi, swordfish kabobs, jerk chicken, conch fritters, and tropical desserts. “We also add cocktail umbrella tables poolside in the sand by the palm trees.”
Create A Themed Wedding, Or Go Traditional ... “We threw our first Caribbean party this past year,” says Andrew, “but we’ll do anything.” If you’re thinking of a theme for your wedding, you might want to consider some they’ve created — such as after-hour parties, jazz cafés, jazz bars, piano lounges, and even lounge-style weddings. “For a lounge-style wedding, we don’t set up traditional large round tables,” says Andrew. “Instead, we set up couches and high bar tables. It permits your guests to easily mingle and enjoy each other’s company, as well as the music and the dancing.”
Woodbury Country Club also hosts traditional weddings, and their main ballrooms can accommodate from 125 to 350 guests. “Our landscape includes a fountain-filled reflecting pool, a lakeside gazebo, and botanical terraces. They’re all perfectly viewed from our wall of windows, and they’re richly illuminated at night to create an enchanting atmosphere.
“Our reception rooms are decorated in soft and subdued monochrome of creams, ivories, and champagne. The rooms also are newly renovated, with new window treatments, new chairs, and new carpeting. It’s a fresh look.”
All party rooms are on their own private floors, with private restrooms and bridal rooms. “Our 18-acre estate is divided to ensure total privacy for outdoor chapels, cocktail hours, and photo areas. The Passavia family is celebrating over 35 years at the Woodbury Country Club, and they’re committed to excellence when catering your affair.”
Off-Premise Excitement ... “We’re also launching a new company called W Events,” says Andrew, “and with it, we are providing off-premise catering, event planning, and décor.”
With their renowned master chef Guy Thomas, they’re offering customized menus, with classic dishes, seasonal favorites, and unique creations. “We also have our own fully-equipped portable culinary facility, even including large professional grills for perfectly preparing steaks, chicken, lamb, veal, seafood, and vegetables.”
Personalized Service ... For his on-premise events, Andrew works with five catering directors. “Each one sees you through, from the day you sign your contract to your wedding itself.
“For both our on-premise and off-site events, we also act as your planners, assisting you in every phase of the planning process. We custom design menus for cultural, religious, and dietary needs, and also help you select your vendors. Whether it’s your flowers, limousine, photographer, or music, we have access to the best.
“The most exciting aspect of working with a couple on their wedding is sharing their special day, helping them plan it, and seeing it through, all the while becoming part of their family, as they become part of ours.”
