Perfect Wedding Tips: The Palm House

Find a Venue That Follows Your Lead

"If the two of you can hold onto the reason you are getting married throughout the wedding planning process," says Charles Krause of The Palm House, "everything you choose will be personal and will reflect who you are as a couple.

"Remember, the venue you choose should always follow your lead. It’s not about how you can fit their mold, it’s about them making a mold that’s ‘you.’ " Offering 52 acres of lush gardens, the Palm House handles only one wedding at a time so they can focus all their attention on you and your guests.

"Starting with champagne in our Japanese garden is lovely," says Charles, "then if you like, you can walk to the rose garden for a romantic ceremony, followed by cocktails and hors d’oeuvres near the lily pools. Our grounds are expansive and beautiful so the options are endless.

"The absolute key to a successful wedding is pre-planning," he continues. "Do not leave things to the last minute." To help with planning and organization, he recommends looking for a venue with a helpful, experienced staff and a great management team.

"At every one of our weddings a maitre d’ acts as a liaison between you and the various vendors you have hired, such as the photographer, florist, and band." Helping you plan the processional, the maitre d’ will monitor the flow of events and make sure there’s a smooth and timely transition between cocktails, dinner, dancing, toasts, and cake cutting,

"It’s great," says Charles, "because you need someone on hand to make sure the music is always at an appropriate level and that the photographer is not being too obtrusive. Though everyone wants photos and videos, for example, you don’t want to feel like you’re on a movie set.

"Everyone, including your vendors, should have the utmost respect for your sacred event. If you employ a venue with an alert, attentive, and caring staff, you’ll be able to sit back, relax, and truly enjoy the first day of your partnership in life."
