Choosing Your Photographer & Videographer
In the months and years to come, you'll turn again and again to your wedding photos and video. They're invaluable mementos. But, though before your wedding you can sample your final menu, try on your gown, run through a final makeup and hair test, hear your band, see samples of your final floral decorations ... you can't see your actual wedding photos until after your wedding. |
So to choose your photographer and videographer, we suggest you first agree on the image style you want. Do you prefer formal or informal? Candid or posed? Photojournalistic, artsy, or traditional? Or do you want a variety of approaches, depending on the different moments being captured? |
See the websites, books, and samples of those who appeal to you, as well as the galleries here and in our magazine. Make sure they can capture the styles you want. cont'd below... |

cont'd... Once you've evaluated photo and video styles, assess the "chemistry" between you and who will be recording your wedding day. Will you be comfortable in front of his or her camera? Will your guests be comfortable? Will you and your guests enjoy having him or her at your wedding?
Ideally, as a final confirmation, experience a photo shooting beforehand. Take the time for an engagement portrait, either in a studio setting or outdoors.
Finally, if you have certain "must-have" shots, prepare a short list. Communicate your wishes clearly, and designate someone in your bridal party who can identify these individuals for your photo-video team. Now relax and enjoy yourself! |
