Princess for a Day
James and I met in high school. Our first date we went to see the movie “Prom Night.” Fast forward 10 years, I am now a pharmaceutical sales rep and James is a logistics manager. During Christmastime, James planned a trip for us to go to NYC and see the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. Right in front of the tree, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! We celebrated with brunch and later that day, he took me to a small surprise party at my parents’ house with all our friends and family.
Our family friends own Falkirk Estate, so we knew that not only is the venue beautiful, but the staff provides top notch service. The grounds are incredible and the ballroom was spacious enough to fit our 285 guests. Our guests raved about the food and the service. Tommy Spinelli, the general manager, made me feel like a princess. He was very knowledgeable, accommodating, and enthusiastic. Everything I wanted, he made happen.
We were married in James’ family church, which has now become our church too. Bishop Lagonegro created a very special ceremony for us. Cocktail hour at Falkirk was incredible. As a harpist played beautiful music, butlers passed hors d’oeuvres, including risotto croquettes, sesame-crusted rare tuna, and my favorite, assorted sushi rolls. We had hot and cold food stations, such as a seafood with clam shell ice sculpture that served jumbo shrimp cocktail and crab claws and an Italian station that offered classics like penne alla vodka and eggplant rollatini.
The ballroom incorporated our neutral color scheme of white with gold accents. Our table centerpieces were filled with all white flowers: garden roses, hydrangeas, and cascading orchids, and surrounded by gold votives. The glitter gold table cards and menus added a subtle extra sparkle to the room.
The service at dinner was incredible. Every table had its own wait staff, who were all so attentive. I couldn’t blink without having my drink refilled. Dinner started with a duet appetizer of fresh mozzarella and beefsteak tomato Napoleon with frisee salad. Then guests were able to select from three entrée options: chateaubriand with red wine demi-glace, Atlantic salmon with dill béchamel saue, or French-cut chicken stuffed with spinach and Asiago cheese.
We had a band and a DJ and they played off each other very well. James’ sister, Hannah, also sang “One and Only” by Adele for us! For dessert, we offered our delicious wedding cake as well a dessert tower, a zeppole station, and a gelato station. As a sweet personal touch, my grandfather’s homemade anisette was put on all the tables with coffee.
We surprised our guests with a cigar roller station and a firework show at the end of the night! James’ family is in the wine business, so as our favor, we created our own wine called “Delaney’s Way,” with personalized wine corks, and all our guests got to take home a bottle. We continued the night at our after-party, enjoying more late-night snacks such as soft pretzels and French fries.
Thank you to both our parents for doing everything and anything to make this day possible. Thank you to our friends and family for sharing this day with us. Thank you to all our vendors, and to Tommy and the incredible staff at Falkirk Estate for all your help in making this day absolutely perfect.
