I had a crush on Shane since I met him during homeroom our junior year of high school. We both attended the same college and double majored in accounting and finance. After getting closer during one of our classes together, we started dating sophomore year. After graduation, we began working as CPAs.
While my mom and I were vacationing together in St. Thomas, we fell in love with the jewelry at Ballerina Jewelers. Two months later, Shane secretly arranged to fly Giresh, the store owner, to New York to help pick out my ring with my mom. That Friday after work, Shane took me to the gazebo in Spring Lake. He gave me a pair of nude Louboutin shoes and inside the bag was a receipt from the lunch where Shane took my dad to ask his permission to marry me. On the back of the receipt were Taylor Swift Lyrics to “Love Story.” Photographers on a bench nearby captured the whole proposal! Afterwards, Shane surprised me again with all our friends and family waiting at dinner to celebrate.
We looked at 35 venues across NY and NJ, and none compared to the elegant ambiance, intimate ballroom, incredible food and service, and gorgeous grounds at Nanina’s in the Park. Tom Casella, the former general manager, and Julian Reyes, the current general manager, made every request of ours come true. On the night of, Liz Simonski, the hostess, Vicky Iandoli, the maître d’, and Marta Vivanco, the bridal attendant, took excellent care of us. When Nanina’s opened its sister venue, Park Château, Tom moved to that venue. Because I loved working with Tom, my mom booked my bridal shower at Park Château. We will hold all our life events with the Nanina’s franchise; they truly feel like part of the family.
We had an intimate Catholic church ceremony. We both lost family members during the year, including Shane’s mom, so we had their photos and reserved chairs with a candle burning to include them in our wedding. There were endless amounts of foods and drinks at our cocktail hour! Our signature cocktail was the latest summer craze, Frosé. We had over 50 passed hors d’oeuvres and 12 food stations, including a wine and cheese bar, a martini bar, a mac and cheese bar, and a customized ice sculpture.
The entrance to our reception was a beautiful blush and gold “flower wall,” which was then moved behind our sweetheart table. The table cards were scrolls on full champagne glasses, beautifully displayed on the grand piano. Our tables were decorated with flowers matching the flower wall and floating candles. For an extra wow factor, our florist hung over 3,000 crystals from the ceiling! Dinner started with a tomato and mozzarella salad with balsamic glaze. For the main dish, we offered a Romeo & Juliet duet of chateaubriand in cabernet sauce and Shrimp Nanina’s in a butter reduction sauce. We also offered options of chicken saltimbocca stuffed with prosciutto, spinach, and mozzarella in a creamy béchamel sauce or eggplant Napoleon.
Our DJ, Anthony B, brought the party feel we wanted for our reception. Our package included custom lighting, a mirrored photobooth, CO2 blasts, huge glow sticks, and dancing on the clouds for our first dance. As a dedication to Shane’s mom, during their first dance song, Anthony created a beautiful tribute video that left not a dry eye in the room. Our Viennese table included 10 stations of crepes, chocolate fountains, cordials, and Bananas Foster flambé. The party continued in the ballroom with our after-party, featuring diner-themed food such as disco French fries and bacon-egg-and-cheese sandwiches.
Thank you to all our vendors and to Julian, Liz, Vicky, Marta, Tom, and the entire crew at Nanina’s for their flawless attention to detail. Our day would not have been possible without your talents and support. Thank you to both our parents, especially my mom/bestie Patty for helping plan the entire day. And finally, thank you to our bridal party, friends, and families for being part of our fairy tale.
