Max and I both grew up in the same town and met while working at a local bakery together. After years of flirting, we officially began dating our senior year of high school. Now, I work in finance and Max is an accountant. On Max’s birthday weekend, 10 years later, we rented a room at the W Hotel in Hoboken, NJ. Max’s best friend and future best man, Michael McGovern, coordinated with Max to decorate our room with rose petals and candles before we checked in. As soon as we walked in, Max got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife! We spent the rest of the weekend celebrating with our friends and family.
We looked at about 20 venues before we found il Tulipano. Not only was it a beautiful space with amazing food, but it was very reasonably priced for all that was included in the package! It was the perfect sized venue for our 150 guests and we loved that we got the entire place to ourselves for the night. We worked with Chris Ryter, catering and events director, and he and the whole staff were accommodating and flexible. Both Max and I come from large Italian families, so food was very important to us. Chris and the il Tulipano team were fantastic helping us customize our menu and add our own unique touches.
We were married at the church where Max and I made all our sacraments and where Max attended school for years. Our priest, Father Owen, took time to get to know us and gave a beautiful mass. He also said grace at our reception!
Our cocktail hour was amazing. il Tulipano is known for their delicious food and they definitely did not disappoint. We had everything you could think of, including homemade pizza, a pasta station with tortellini and rigatoni, a carving station with filet of beef and roasted pork loin, and more. The seafood was fresh and delicious. Our guests loved the seafood extravaganza display with oysters, shrimp, scallops, and more, and we also added a chef-manned lobster roll station, my favorite!
The Italian marble ballroom complemented our elegant reception décor. We had alternating high and low off-white floral arrangements on the tables and light purple uplighting for an upbeat mood. Dinner began with a lobster risotto cake and a lemon sorbetto intermezzo. For the main course, guests chose between a filet of sole in a lemon butter sauce, prime filet mignon, or chicken forestiera. I had the filet of sole, Max had the filet mignon, and everything was cooked to perfection.
Our band was amazing and had our guests dancing all night. They played a variety of music for our wide range of ages. Our wedding cake was a white cake with dulce de leche filling and fondant icing and our Viennese hour had everything from cotton candy and homemade gelato to crepes and waffles, and more! On the way out, guests were provided with a cup of coffee and biscotti.
Thank you to our parents, who were such an integral part of the day, for all their help. Thank you to Chris and the staff at il Tulipano for making our dream wedding a reality. Thank you to all our vendors, especially our photographer, Gabe, for ensuring everything went the way we wanted. Max and I are very lucky to have such great friends and family to celebrate the start of a beautiful new life together.
