Rustic & Romantic
We met through our mutual friends and after discovering our shared interest in cars and motorcycles, we became good friends and eventually started dating. Brian is a heavy equipment operator and I am a commercial loan officer. After five years of dating, Brian proposed during an off-roading trip in Michigan at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Our future best man and maid of honor, Jesse and Sarah, were with us on the trip and we all celebrated together.
To ensure we could plan every detail and get all the vendors we wanted, we had a two-year engagement. SkyView Golf Club was the perfect mix of country rustic and romantic elegance we were looking for. The venue’s scenic grounds along with the log cabin on site were perfect for us. Rafael Payano, the general manager, was wonderful to work with. He was friendly and attentive, always responding to me quickly. He and the SkyView staff have become friends to us.
The rustic gazebo overlooking the mountains paired with the fall foliage was the perfect setting for our outdoor ceremony. We included a special sand ceremony, symbolizing our unity. We also had our three dogs serve as our ring bearer and flower girls, which our guests loved!
Our cocktail hour was massive! In addition to our extravagant champagne display, we had delicious passed hors d’oeuvres and chafing dishes such as bruschetta on garlic toast points, kale potstickers with teriyaki sauce, homemade five-cheese mac and cheese, and more. We also had two live stations with chefs: a mashed potato bar with all kinds of toppings and a pub station with classics like buffalo chicken wings and mozzarella sticks, accompanied by a seasonal IPA beer display.
We wanted our ballroom décor to reflect both our fun side as well as our romantic side. We incorporated lots of colors with our centerpieces, which were lanterns and vases with red, yellow, orange, blue, and green flowers in them. The room’s blue uplighting added a romantic touch, and we loved our monogram in script lit up on the wall.
Dinner began with a tricolor salad dressed in champagne vinaigrette, topped with crumbled feta cheese and fresh orange segments. Then guests were served both chateaubriand with bordelaise sauce and chicken francaise. Each dish was delicious and accompanied with seasonal vegetables and roasted potatoes. Our DJ played the best party music, from hip hop to country to modern pop hits.
For dessert, we offered guests a painted plate sampler that included a slice of our wedding cake, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and chocolate-covered strawberries, all drizzled with both chocolate and raspberry syrup. As a tribute to our love for riding motorcycles, our cake topper was a guy kissing a girl on a motorcycle. And we also had a s’mores station outside by the fire pit!
Thank you to all our vendors and to Rafael and the SkyView staff for helping us put together our dream wedding. Thank you to our parents, friends, and family for their love and support on our special day.
