Adam and I met through the dating app OkCupid. I am a nurse and Adam is a software engineer. Our first date was at the famous Café Lalo on West 83rd Street, which was featured in the hit movie “You’ve Got Mail.” After seven months of dating, Adam took me to Central Park and while walking around the gardens there, he got down on one knee and proposed! We met up with my father afterward in Midtown to celebrate with champagne.
We chose Faculty House at Columbia University as our wedding venue because of its elegant ambiance and convenient location for both our NYC and out-of-state guests to get to. We worked with Yvette Matos-Gooding, social events manager, and she was great to work with. She was so helpful during the planning process, helping us coordinate everything from the flow of the night to our décor and to making sure everything ran smoothly on our wedding day.
We had a traditional Jewish ceremony at Faculty House, including everything from the chuppah to breaking the glass! To keep everything kosher, we had an outside caterer for all our food. At cocktail hour, butlers passed hors d’oeuvres and canapés such as sesame-crusted franks, mini vegetable egg rolls with duck sauce, sesame salmon brochettes with mustard lime dipping sauce, and more. We had several display stations, such as a tapas bar with items like grilled cauliflower and roasted beet carpaccio as well as specialty stations like a guacamole bar and a vegetable grill.
Because our wedding was in the fall, we decorated our ballroom with fall themed colors. We had high centerpieces filled with red, white, and lavender flowers. We liked how the dance floor is right in the front when you walk in, which inspires everyone to dance. Our band primarily played Jewish music and had everyone dancing all night long!
We started dinner with a ceremonial challah dance before eating. Then we offered an appetizer of arugula salad in honey mustard vinaigrette. For the entrée, guests had an option of chicken breast with mushroom stuffing, roasted cauliflower steak, or grilled salmon. For dessert, we had a delicious crumb cake as well as ramekin of apple cobbler and cappuccino gelato. All the food our caterers provided was incredible.
Thank you to both our parents for their love and support. And thank you to all our vendors and to Yvette and Faculty House for their talent and professionalism that allowed us to create the perfect wedding day.
