Rob and I met online. He is a CDL driver and I am a manager for a non-profit organization. For our first date, he took me to a sushi restaurant in Sparta, NJ, and afterward we walked along the Lake Mohawk Boardwalk and got ice cream, talking for hours. About two and a half years later, Rob and I took a vacation to Disneyworld. He proposed the first day we were there, in front of the Star Wars ride, his favorite!
It was important to us that our venue hosted only one wedding at a time. The staff at Florentine Gardens, in our opinion, is the best in the game. Maria Daidone, general manager, and Amanda Daidone, assistant general manager, felt like family right away. Maria was so helpful in planning and gave great vendor recommendations. We felt confident that everything we envisioned would be executed to perfection. Laila, our bridal attendant, anticipated my every need. Before I walked down the aisle, she even did a quick sew to my dress for a tighter fit! Jeffrey, our maître d’, helped coordinate the flow of the day and provided excellent service to us and all our guests. Sal Travis, Florentine’s house cinematographer, was great to work with. With his artistic direction, our videos turned out better than we could have even imagined!
Our ceremony room had beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked trees decorated with Christmas lights. To incorporate Disney into our wedding, “So this is Love” from Cinderella played as I walked down the aisle. We wanted someone who knew us personally to marry us and we were delighted that my brother-in-law officiated!
Our guests gave us so many compliments on the food at our cocktail hour. We had several stations, including the “Risotto al Dente” with braised veal shank and lobster risotto and an Italian station with rice balls, Italian sausage, and more! Robert’s favorite was the raw bar with items like smoked salmon with capers and chilled shrimp with clams in cocktail sauce. We also had several hors d’oeuvres; my mom adored the New Zealand baby lamb chops.
At the entrance to our reception, we had gold sequined pillows that matched the bridesmaids’ gowns as well as pashminas and flip-flops for our guests. We decorated the ballroom with gold, crème, and blush colors. The room’s high ceilings inspired our high and low floral arrangements of garden roses and hydrangeas in gold Venetian vases.
Dinner began with a tomato and mozzarella salad. Then guests had a choice of chateaubriand in pink peppercorn cream; chicken stuffed with proscuitto, mozzarella, and ricotta in a mushroom sauce; or a miso-glazed Chilean seabass teriyaki beurre blanc. For dessert, we had our cannoli and raspberry cream wedding cake. Our cake topper was our last name with a figurine of our dog climbing it. We also had several dessert tables, with treats like Oreo cheesecake and caramel apple tart.
Our dance floor was packed all night, thanks to our phenomenal live band! We had the concert vibe we wanted, but guests also had the choice of enjoying the elegant outdoor balcony, complete with Florentine’s space heaters.
Thank you to our parents and siblings! The wedding would not have happened without their help. Thank you to Maria, Sal, Laila, Jeff, and the staff at Florentine Gardens for the exceptional work in putting together our special day. A special shout out to my hair and makeup artists who made us look and feel beautiful all day.
