We were married outside under a pergola made of vines, with the Hudson River behind us. We added four large flower arrangements along the aisle to surround the ceremony space and complement the natural beauty of the garden and the view of the Hudson River. With my cousin and oldest friend as the officiant and my sister as my “best ma’am,” the ceremony was a unique reflection of who we are as a couple, mixing heartfelt words and some humor. We were also blessed with perfect weather, which we believe must have been a present from Angelica’s dad, who passed away prior to the wedding.
The simple yet elegant décor complemented The Garrison’s modern glass walls and straight, clean lines. Our speciality cocktail was an Arnold Palmer spiked with vodka, and on the day of the wedding, the staff at The Garrison brewed 40 pots of tea for us! Our favorite hors d’oeuvres were tomato soup served in shot glasses with mini grilled cheeses and pigs in a blanket with dijon mustard. Our ballroom mimicked the rustic look of The Garrison’s beautiful grounds outside. We had large, clear vases with multi-level centerpieces featuring white, creme, gray, and forest green colored flowers. I added a special touch to the room with Japanese lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Our music was a 90’s house party theme, from Motown to hip-hop to salsa.
For dinner, we had roasted barramundi with tarragon beurre blanc or boneless short ribs of beef with veal jus, both served with roasted vegetables and smashed potatoes with garlic. Both were mind-blowingly good! After a night of dancing, we treated our guests to delicious pizza from a pizza truck.
