Farm-to-Table Rustic Wedding
Michael and I met while waiting in line at a deli at Hofstra University. After running into each other a few times around campus, Michael finally asked me out on a date. Now, I work in television production and Michael is an attorney. On the way to dinner for our sixth anniversary, Michael stopped at Hofstra. He took me to the same spot where we first met — and proposed! We celebrated with dinner at the same restaurant where we had our first date.
We were looking for a farm-to-table venue with a unique “personality.” As soon as we saw The Garrison and its breathtaking views of the Hudson River Valley, we knew we had found the perfect place for our rustic chic wedding. Todd Smith, the banquet sales manager, immediately understood our vision. Todd, Tara Daly, my bridal assistant, and every person at The Garrison was professional, responsive, and caring. They all focused on ensuring we had the best and most special wedding.
Our outdoor ceremony décor included white chairs, mason jars full of flowers down the center aisle, and a floral arrangement around the pergola. We wrote the entire wedding ceremony ourselves and were assisted with special readings by our close friends.
The food at our cocktail hour was exceptional. We had two main stations: a BBQ station with favorites like pulled pork and brisket and an Italian station with dishes like penne alla vodka and meatballs. We also had various passed appetizers, including sushi rolls, mini cheese steaks, chicken skewers, and more. The Garrison staff pulled us aside to make sure that we enjoyed some of the dishes alone together before the reception.
For our ballroom, we created a rustic décor to accent the airy feel of The Garrison’s floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the beautiful grounds. We had gray, pink, and ivory floral arrangements and added a piece of rosemary in all the napkins. In the menus, we incorporated the names of all the farms that provided produce for our wedding. For our favors, everyone got mini limoncello bottles to give a taste of our honeymoon trip to Italy. We also had take-home magnets made from photos at our photo booth. Our DJ, Jeff, made sure the whole place was up on their feet all night. We even had Michael’s 90-year-old grandfather on the dance floor! Our guests loved wearing the hats, props, and glow-in-the-dark objects that our DJ provided.
Each table had personalized waiter service, a touch our guests greatly appreciated. For dinner, we served grilled flat-iron steak with red wine veal jus or sea bass with tarragon beurre blanc. For dessert, we had our naked strawberry and champagne wedding cake covered in fresh fruit.
Thank you to our parents for their support and encouragement to put together the wedding of our dreams. Thanks to our wedding party; we could not imagine anyone else standing by our side. Thank you to Todd, Tara, and The Garrison staff and all our vendors for fulfilling every single one of our visions. And thank you to our friends and family. It meant so much to us to have everyone we love under one roof on our special day!
