Kevin and I both attended Lasell College in MA, but our paths did not cross until right before his graduation and my semester abroad. We met at a favorite Lasell bar and exchanged numbers. Even with a time difference and many miles between us, we always made time to talk. When I graduated two years later, I moved to New York to pursue a career in fashion design while Kevin stayed in MA. Kevin moved to New York a few years later when he landed a sales job in the city.
Six years later, we went on a trip with my family to Aruba, which had become a special vacation spot since my parents honeymooned there 40 years earlier. Kevin arranged for the two of us to go on a romantic sunset cruise. Once the boat docked, we stopped by a few bars and then headed to the beach. While walking on the beach, Kevin proposed!
We were not sure if we wanted our wedding in MA, NY, or somewhere in the middle, until we saw Surf Club on the Sound. We were in awe when we pulled up to the estate. Charles Koebler, the banquet manager, showed us around and spoke to us about our options. Every room and feature seemed better than the last. We loved that we could use indoor and outdoor spaces, both equally stunning, for all the parts of our night. When we got back in the car, we looked at each other smiling ear to ear. This was our place.
Throughout the process, Charles, Sandro Carlacci, the general manager, Meryll Martin, our bridal attendant, and George Guarnieri, our maitre’d, were extremely helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. Any concern we had was promptly addressed.
We had a traditional ceremony at our church in the city, and then headed to Surf Club to take photos and freshen up before cocktail hour. Everything we needed was available in the bridal suite. It was so nice to regroup and spend some time with our bridal party before guests arrived. Our cocktail hour took place outside, with a breathtaking view of the sound.
Guests could not stop talking about all the food and how extravagantly it was displayed. Our passed hors d’oeuvres included scallops wrapped in maple-cured bacon, sesame chicken skewers, coconut jumbo shrimp, and more. We had five food stations including a crudité display, a pasta station, a Mediterranean station, an Oriental express station, and a Lower East Side station. Charles and Sandro went above and beyond to get a variety of craft beers at the bar for us, which Kevin especially loved. The martini bar with the ice luge was also a big hit!
Our ballroom had elegant uplighting and our monogram was illuminated on the dance floor. Rose petals adorned every table, giving the room a soft, romantic feeling. Our high and low centerpieces were filled with roses, hydrangeas, baby’s breath, and dusty miller. Floating candles wrapped with greenery covered our tall centerpieces. The décor gave the room a perfect vintage charm. For dinner, guests chose between filet mignon, chicken en croute, miso-glazed salmon, and a vegetable-tower dish. The Surf Club’s in-house bakery made an amazing trio of desserts for each guest, and even a delicious cannoli cake!
Many thanks to all our vendors who took the time to get to know us and nailed our vision. Especially our photographers, Elaine and Mike, who captured our best moments on camera. And of course, everyone at Surf Club for all their hard work in creating the best day of our lives. And thank you to our families and friends for always guiding and supporting us. We are so lucky and thankful to have had the best wedding day imaginable.
