Intimate Hotel Wedding
Andy: Genna and I met on match.com. I am a membership services manager and she is a teacher. We joke about how we met because we discovered that I originally contacted her on JDate and she ignored me! Our first date was at a wine bar in the city and I’m so glad she gave me a chance.
Two and half years later, I took Genna back to that same wine bar to propose. The manager helped me set up the proposal and I hired a photographer to secretly capture the moment. Afterward, I arranged for our parents to join us and celebrate.
We really did our homework venue-shopping and saw about 20 venues before choosing Hilton Pearl River. We wanted a venue where we could have all our wedding day events and that also hosted only one wedding a time. Because we had guests coming from several different areas, we decided a hotel would be best. Hilton Pearl River’s location just outside the city was perfect and the venue had a unique feel. We clicked with Gerry Burns, director of catering, right away. She was beyond incredible. Derek Rubino, the maître d’, executed everything to perfection. The whole Hilton Pearl staff was so kind, accommodating, and helpful.
Genna: We had an indoor Jewish ceremony officiated by our rabbi, with a traditional chuppah. Then we joined our guests in the conservatory room for our cocktail hour, allowing us to greet everyone there so we could spend the whole reception dancing. Hilton Pearl really helped us customize our menu. I have a severe nut allergy, so everything was 100% nut-free and we were given several options off-the-menu for special dishes premade. Andy’s parents love potato pancakes, for example, and even though they weren’t on the menu, Gerry found a way to include them!
With just 120 guests, we wanted a romantic and intimate ambiance in our ballroom. Rather than sitting separately at a sweetheart table, we sat with our bridal party. We had low centerpieces filled with water, large floating candles, and rocks.
Our band really got the crowd going. Gerry recommended them to us, after loving their performance at her own wedding! The band allowed us to customize our playlist and they even learned how to play new songs to meet our requests.
Dinner started with an arugula salad with roasted shallot champagne dressing. For the entrée, guests had an option of chateaubriand in bordelaise sauce, grilled salmon in lemon butter caper sauce, or French-cut chicken breast in Madeira sauce. Our cannoli-filled wedding cake was delicious, thanks to another vendor recommended by Hilton Pearl River. We also offered a trio of sorbet in chocolate-dipped waffle cups and apple cobbler. Everything was delicious.
Genna & Andy: Thank you to Gerry, Derek, and Hilton Pearl River for helping us plan the perfect wedding. Thank you to all our incredible vendors, especially our photographer and videographer, for capturing our vision. Thank you to our parents for making this all possible.
