A Gatsby-esque Mansion
Cliff and I met in our college theatre where Cliff ran the lighting board and I was the stage manager. We developed a great friendship, but lost touch as our lives moved in separate directions. Over 20 years later, in our 40’s, we ran into each other at Starbucks and felt something more than friendship for the first time. Ten months later, Cliff took me back to the lighting booth in the college theatre where our story first began and proposed!
We wanted an intimate wedding venue with classic elegance. Cliff and I both came across Falkirk Estate & Country Club and were excited to visit. We loved that our wedding could be the only one of the day. From our first phone call with Tommy Spinelli, the general manager, and then stepping into the lobby, we knew we found our place.
The marble lobby exudes elegance, with its glass table, stunning chandelier, and stylish armchairs covered in tasteful leopard print. The Grand Ballroom looked like something in a Gatsby-esque mansion with its black marble dance floor, beautiful chandeliers, mahogany fireplace, and sophisticated large bar. Additionally, the outdoor courtyard provides striking views of the Hudson Valley mountains and the venue’s picturesque gazebos and waterfalls.
I valued Tommy’s suggestions on vendors, menu options, and décor. He advised me to choose décor as if I was decorating my own home, which made it easy for me to design. Tommy’s attention to detail was exquisite. He sewed a button on Cliff’s tuxedo right before our ceremony and helped adjust my gown and veil before our first dance.
Our guests gathered in front of the timeless fireplace, decorated with tea light candles and white roses, as Reverend David Lothrop married us. At our cocktail hour, guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and food stations that circled the room. Most notable were scallops wrapped in bacon, coconut shrimp, the enormous shrimp cocktail bar, mussels in garlic and oil, and home-style eggplant rollatini. We entered the reception and did our choreographed first dance.
Cliff’s company projected a custom lighting pattern in the ballroom, which lit up a special quote by poet Janos Arany: “In dreams and in love there are no impossibilities.” This quote was also engraved on our champagne flute wedding favors. We added another personal touch by incorporating our love for theatre into our wedding programs, which we structured as a theatrical playbill.
For dinner, we offered a choice of beef tenderloin, Atlantic salmon, or “Falkirk Chicken” stuffed with spinach and Asiago cheese. For dessert, we served our chocolate and raspberry mousse wedding cake and had a gelato bar.
We are grateful for the love and support of the many people close to our hearts. Thank you to Tommy at Falkirk for his incredible assistance and guidance. I am personally thankful for walking into Starbucks and finding Cliff again. We are so excited to start this new chapter of our lives together.
