Elegant Atmosphere, Delicious Food
James and I met at the high school where we both work. He teaches health and physical education and coaches football and baseball and I teach physics and coach softball. At the end of the school year, at one of our colleague’s barbecues, he finally asked me out! For our first date, we went out for a drink at a restaurant along the Hudson and then back to his house to play ping pong. Three and a half years later, James took me back to the crab house for dinner and a drink. After, we walked along the pier, with a view of the romantic NYC skyline, and he proposed!
My sister Nicole loves planning and became my unofficial, unpaid wedding planner. She immediately sent me a list of venues she thought I might like with their availability and contact information. After seeing The Brownstone and meeting with Albert Manzo, the owner, and Denise Limone, the banquet manager, we were blown away! The elegant atmosphere and delicious food were out of this world. Albert and Denise were so flexible and worked with us on our budget to give us the most “wow” for our money. They truly cared about giving us the best wedding ever.
We were married in the glass Conservatory room. Our string quartet played “Thunder Road” by Bruce Springsteen when James entered and “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley when I walked down the aisle. Our nephews made the most adorable ring bearers!
Cocktail hour was unbelievable! The beautiful mahogany bar gives the feeling of an upscale sports bar. Our college friend Bill Dwyer and his band played an acoustic hour of oldies and 90’s rock to get the party started. We had many butlered hors d’oeuvres, with favorites like lobster spring rolls, mushroom truffle risotto puffs, scallops wrapped in bacon, and more! We had various food stations including a pasta station with cheese tortellini and penne pasta with vodka sauce, a fresh mozzarella station, and a Brownstone sliders station.
The Grand Ballroom has so much character and offers a romantic, elegant ambiance. Our centerpieces were white hydrangeas and peonies surrounded by votives and each table had handmade table numbers. My sister Nicole, my mom Barbara, and my Uncle Joe painted big wooden numbers with champagne glitter. (Thank you so much!)
Our DJ played music that kept everyone dancing all night, from Michael Jackson to R. Kelly to N’Sync. To ensure the most dancing possible, we did a buffet-style dinner. Dinner included options of braised short ribs, chicken Francaise, bucatini spicy blue crab, classic lasagna, and a carving station with beef tenderloin and wild striped bass. We also offered side dishes like risotto and wild mushrooms and sweet Italian sausage peppers. In addition to our velvet rope funfetti wedding cake with vanilla custard filling, we also had a Viennese table! It included a waffle sundae bar, a zeppole station, a chocolate fountain, and a bananas foster station.
Thank you to our parents for all their help and for making this amazing day possible. Thank you to my sister Nicole for planning essentially all of this wedding! Thank you to our bridal party for your hilarious, unforgettable speeches and to our friends and family for celebrating the day with us. Thank you to all our vendors and Albert and Denise at The Brownstone for helping us create our dream wedding.
