Trendy & Chic
In college, Rick lived down the hall from me and we quickly became best friends. I was studying public relations and Rick studied hotel management. After two years of us dancing around the inevitable, we finally began dating. Years later, Rick planned his proposal on Friday the 13th, to throw me off. He wanted us to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to Grimaldi’s for dinner, where family and friends were secretly waiting to celebrate. It started raining, making it hard to convince me to go, but eventually, I agreed. Walking across the bridge, Rick got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, “In rain or shine.”
Rick and I wanted a beach venue. We searched everything from the Jersey Shore to destination wedding locations and nothing felt right until we saw The Crescent Beach Club. It was such a trendy venue with chic furniture, palm trees, and a stunning view of the water for the ceremony and the reception. Matt Silver, the general manager, Denise Chevalier, the director of sales, Stacie DeRosa, the private events manager, Kim Mendelsohn, the event planner, and Debbie Seher, my bridal attendant, felt like family. They patiently answered every question my family and I had. I loved how they texted us with décor ideas!
Our family friend officiated our outdoor beach ceremony. Rick and his father built the arch of bamboo and shells, with sheets draping down from it. It was beautiful, with palm trees and the ocean behind us. We were glad the Crescent Beach team gave us 10 minutes to ourselves to enjoy the food before joining everyone at cocktail hour. We had a Roma station with various pasta dishes; a Shore Road station with tilapia, chicken, steak, and vegetables; and a cold display with Italian cured meats and sausages. We also had several passed hors d’oeuvres, including pepper-crusted tuna, mini lamb sliders, fried vegetable dumplings, and more.
We had casual beach décor in the ballroom. For our tables, I put numbers on a starfish and tied a purple ribbon around each. Half our centerpieces, which I also made, were vases with sand, water, shells, and floating candles. The other half were lanterns with a wreath of flowers around them, made by our florist.
All the food was delicious. For dinner, our guests had a choice of Atlantic salmon, chicken stuffed with apple cake, or sliced chateaubriand. My dad got one of each, thanks to Debbie! The bananas foster dessert station was the best, with bananas sautéed in brown sugar, Myers’s rum, and butter, prepared right in front of our guests. Our wedding cake had Mr. & Mrs. penguins, our favorite animal, on the top!
Our DJ had purple uplighting, which tied into our room décor and bridal party outfits. He played everything from oldies to house music and everyone was dancing all night.
The night ended with an after-hours bonfire, where we had s’mores, more snacks and drinks, and even a food truck with Taco Bell tacos! Everything we had hoped for — The Crescent Beach Club made happen. Thank you to Matt, Denise, Stacie, Kim, and Debbie for making such a magical day. Thank you to each and every one of our friends and family for all your love, support, and laughs.
