A Magical Ballroom
Jay and I met when we were both out with friends at a lounge, Level, and we hit it off. As I was leaving he asked for my number, and I whispered to my friend, “I’m giving him my real number!” A week later we went on our first date to Real Madrid, a Spanish restaurant in Staten Island. We talked about everything and realized how much we had in common. After this our relationship flourished. Now I work as a school social worker and Jay works in heating and air conditioning.
On the night Jay proposed, I thought we were going to an ordinary dinner with friends. When we got out of the car, he told me I should check his pocket because he had a gift for me. He then took the ring out of his pocket and asked me to marry him. As we walked to the restaurant, I wanted to call my parents, but Jay said to wait until we got there. When we arrived, both our families were there with balloons and big smiles.
When I was done with grad school I began to plan the wedding of our dreams. We went to see two venues and the first one was Above at the Hilton Garden Inn. We fell in love with it and booked a week later. The ballroom was incredible with floor-to-ceiling windows, an amazing bar, and chandeliers throughout the venue that looked like twinkling stars in the night sky. It was everything we were looking for and more.We worked with Sue Vaiana, event planner, who was amazing from beginning to end. She referred us to all our vendors and we used everyone she recommended.
Our wedding day was beautiful. Before I knew it we were at the church waiting to go inside. Seeing Jay standing at the altar was just an incredible feeling! We had a beautiful interfaith ceremony with a rabbi and a priest. After that it was time to party. We had so much food at our cocktail hour! Butler-passed hors d’oeuvres included baby lamb chops with a pomegranate pinot noir glaze, seared tuna with cucumber slaw and wasabi drizzle, and wild mushroom and fontina cheese quesadillas.
For our two different centerpieces I wanted to add a pop of color. Both had pink flowers, though one had seven foot tall branches and the other one was a huge ball of pink flowers. We had our tasting a month before the wedding and knew our guests would have incredibly delicious food.
Dinner started with a warm salad with farro and lobster tail. For our second course we wanted something different from pasta so we decided on a stuffed crepe with artichokes, ricotta, and other vegetables. For the main entrée we had filet mignon, Italian sausage-stuffed chicken, and cedar-smoked salmon with gnocchi. We decided on fun desserts including chocolate milkshake shooters, gelato profiteroles, and cherry cheesecake lollipops, as well as our four-tier wedding cake. With our amazing DJ, it was a nonstop party from beginning to end. We spent the entire night dancing. I have to say my favorite part of the party was the horah!
We want to thank everyone who worked so hard to give us the wedding of our dreams. Jay and I would also like to thank Sue Vaiana and the entire staff at Above. Our wedding exceeded our exceptions and is a day that will forever be in our hearts.
