Modern & Chic
My entire family lives in Korea, but I came to the United States to do a Masters program in interior design. Sung is an IT manager and we met through mutual friends. For our first date, he took me to a beautiful outdoor garden restaurant. A year and a half later, Sung took me to Water’s Edge Restaurant, which has a stunning view of Manhattan. After a nice dinner with some wine, he took me to the walkway outside, and asked me to be his wife. Of course I said yes!
As part of my company’s team, we actually designed Hotel Eventi. I wanted to show my family why I loved my work and living in the US so much. As an additional connection to Eventi, I learned my prior company did the renovations to the hotel’s lobby. Lisa Benoit, the catering sales manager, understood my wedding vision from the start and was extremely professional. She was there with me every moment, from planning to the day of. When we had to fire our florist, Lisa helped me find someone else on short notice that was amazing.
We were married in Eventi’s stunning ballroom, which has dark wood with white furniture and white curtains. Cocktail hour was in the intimate corridor. We had several passed hors d’oeuvres such as Penang curry poached lobster, deviled eggs, red miso chicken wings, and more. We love Middle Eastern food, so we also had a station with pita bread and hummus, tabbouleh, tzaziki, and more. A slideshow with photos of me and Sung in NYC played on Eventi’s big screen outside, which guests can see through the windows. This feature gave my family a great idea of our city life.
For our reception, we kept the décor simple to put the focus on the hotel’s chic design and its views of Manhattan. Our centerpieces were low and full of white and baby pink flowers. Our DJ made the evening very entertaining and happy, with funny stories about us and a great mix of music that everyone could dance to.
For dinner, we started with a salad of beets, almonds, and goat cheese brûlée. For our main course, guests chose between Alaskan salmon or prime rib-eye steak. Each entrée came with a choice of American Ostera caviar and a fingerling potato salad or country fries and grilled asparagus. All the food was delicious. For dessert, we offered a delicious Sylvia Weinstock wedding cake, provided by Eventi. We also had red berry pie, lemon mint gelato, and orange blossom cream.
A special thank you to my family for coming all the way from Korea to celebrate our special day with us. Thank you to our florist, who was able to put everything together on such short notice, and did it perfectly. And of course thank you to Lisa and Hotel Eventi for their professionalism and giving us the best experience.
