"Exceeded Our Expectations"

I’m an ER nurse and Akshay is an ER physician. He was starting his intern year of residency and I was a brand new nurse. We were acquaintances for a couple of months and one day we (finally!) matched on Bumble! He asked me out on a date, but I was working nights, he was starting his ICU rotation, and our schedules were completely opposite for about a month.

For our first date, Akshay picked me up at my apartment and we went to a local restaurant and cocktail bar. We followed that at a beer garden about a block away. Time flew by and our first date was eight hours long!

We went to Martha’s Vineyard in July 2020 and that’s where he proposed. We were supposedly going to meet a friend for drinks and had some extra time. Akshay suggested going to the beach and when we got to the lighthouse, he proposed. The “friend” turned out to be a photographer he had hired for the proposal and for engagement pictures afterwards.

We both always wanted a big wedding. Our final guest count was around 430 people. We did our venue tour at Glen Island Harbour Club and really liked the feel; I loved that it was on the water. We also liked that it has a beautiful driveway for the Baraat, the groom’s entrance.

We did our walk-through with Rocco Agostino, the general manager. He wanted to get to know us and asked questions about us and our families. He gave us a ton of options and suggestions and made planning a wedding so much easier.

We had two ceremonies for our multi-cultural celebration. Both were on the second floor, which, with the room’s semi circle shape and high glass windows, offers great views. The Hindu ceremony was first and we had an hour break to change for the civil ceremony, during which Glen Island offered refreshments and small bites for our guests.

During cocktail hour, we did our photos on a large rock formation just outside. It overlooked the water and our guests could see us. I enjoyed waving to them as they enjoyed cocktail hour. Our bridal attendants brought cocktails and snacks for us during photos as well. The ballroom is a great size and we were pleasantly surprised at how well the room filled out but still left space to move around. A family style dinner was catered by Chutney Masala, while Glen Island provided an incredible Viennese table with more desserts than I could have ever imagined. Glen Island also provided food for our after-party.

Both our families had so much fun through the whole process and we all loved learning about each other’s cultural backgrounds. Everyone at the venue was great, the bartenders were super awesome, and our caterer was so impressive. We couldn’t be happier!
