“An Amazing Staff ”

We met in Bellevue, WA, working at a retirement community; I worked in the kitchen while Liv was in charge of making sure those in assisted living were given the proper meals according to their diets. I had always lived on the West Coast, and on a whim, Liv decided to move from her home state of NJ to WA.

Of all the places she could have worked at, I count my lucky stars that we met. Our first date was at Bowlero’s, which became a regular place for us to bowl or play arcade games. As time went on we grew closer, eventually moving in together and then moving back to NJ in 2020.

By the end of 2022 I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. She was my best friend, so I came up with a plan. For New Year’s Eve we were going to watch the fireworks in downtown New Brunswick, and I knew she would love to get a video of them going off. As midnight struck and the fireworks were going off, I held the ring up in front of her camera and watched in delight as realization dawned on her face. Best way to start the new year!

We began planning our wedding by looking at a few venues and chose The Westin Governor Morris. We liked the ceremony gazebo and that we could have everything in one location without worrying about transportation. David Lombardi, director of catering, was amazing. He was very accommodating to our requests and those of our family, and always brought a smile wherever he went. Christina Rodriguez, the senior sales manager, was a great help as well when it came to getting the room block organized. Any time we had an issue or concern these two were quick to respond and offer answers or solutions. The work they put in took a lot of stress off us and we couldn’t be more grateful.

We went for a travel-themed wedding since we love traveling the world. We used earth colors of blue and forest green. Invitations were boarding passes and passports with our wedding date as the flight number. Each table at our reception was a different country so we had custom made table numbers in the shape of globes with their country on it, floating candles, and some Pokemon cutouts. Our guestbook was actually a little wooden plane you could drop into a transparent globe.

For cocktail hour décor, we had a custom signpost of places dearest to us, vintage suitcases, a crossword puzzle about us, and a departure sign with times of the day’s events. Our guests could find their names attached to a “Where in the world are you sitting” sign in the form of a take-home luggage tag. At the end of the evening, guests could claim their baggage from a suitcase with biscoff cookies in little paper suitcases.

For cocktail hour we had a violinist, Laticia Lewis, play classic rock and modern songs. She was a big hit. Some of our favorite hors d’oeuvres were the raspberry brie pastry, tomato soup shooters, and curry chicken. The action stations were the Knickerbocker martini bar and the Alamo, which were big hits. We also had teriyaki-glazed beef satay and quesadillas with guacamole.

For our reception we had the Westin Governor salad, seared beef tenderloin filet, and potato-crusted grouper. Liv and a few others had a special vegetarian meal of acorn squash, quinoa, and pepper with balsamic vinaigrette.

We had a five-layer vanilla cake with raspberry mousse and chocolate mousse filling and guests also enjoyed vanilla and chocolate cupcakes on a five-tier stand. They also had the option of an ice cream bar and specialty coffee bar that we made sure they would enjoy! People couldn’t stop talking about it. However, the best part of the reception was the wedding party doing a flight intro skit before Liv and I were introduced as the pilots.

Since our wedding was on Veteran’s Day we gave those who served a special pin. Ron Champion, our DJ, made it work for us and added some extra love in his MC’ing. We’d like to say thank you so much to The Westin Governor Morris and the special crew of LC and Heather.

Special thanks to our parents (Brian, Paulette, and Katie) for all the support they gave us as well as our maid of honor, Amanda, and best man, Michael, and the rest of our wedding party: Barbara, Samantha, Brian, Danny, and Wayne who made the day it was! We ended the night on “Country Roads take me Home” as a goodbye to everyone we love.
